Cut & Pierce Sample Piece: Practice makes perfect!

  • Using scrap metal & a jeweler's saw, create 3 different lines longer than 1" each: Wavy, Straight & Zig Zag
  • Also, Pierce a hole in the middle of each of the following shapes, then cut them from your metal close to 1" large each… Circle, Square & Triangle.

Sweat Solder Sample Piece

SOLDERING SAMPLE:

Students break out into smaller groups of 4-5 for individualized instruction on the torches. This project must be completed before he/she can sweat solder the layers of their key chain together.

Goal: To practice using the torch by sweat soldering safely & correctly.

  • You will sweat solder a small shape onto your cut & pierce sample.
  • You will pick solder a small piece of wire into a jump ring on your cut & pierce sample.

Stone Inlay Keychain DUE: SEPTEMBER 25th

    • Learn to create asymmetrical pierced key chain or pendant designs.
    • Learn & practice piercing, cutting, filing & sanding.
    • Learn to practice safety procedures while making jewelry. (SAFETY GLASSES AND HAIR TIES!)
    • Learn to operate the drill press, flexible shaft & buffer.
    • Learn about soldering process & safety at the benches.
    • Learn to sweat solder & overlay solder.
    • Learn to anneal metal (when needed & how)
    • Learn to inlay crushed stone w/ apoxy resin.

February/ October:

    • Learn to design & create 2 band rings based on organic or geometric shapes, incorporation of texture & positive/negative space.
    • Learn how to PROPERLY MEASURE & create a ring of ACCURATE SIZE.
    • Practice piercing, cutting, soldering & sanding.
    • Learn to practice safety procedures while making jewelry. (SAFETY GLASSES AND HAIR TIES!)
    • Learn to operate the drill press, flexible shaft & buffer.
    • Learn to anneal metal (when needed & how) & bend on a mandrel.
    • Practice soldering ends of metal together.(Pick solder & sweat solder)

March-April/ NOVEMBER:

Cuff Bracelet with Matching Earrings OR Sectional Bracelet!

  • Learn to design & create a cuff bracelet based on: cut & pierced sections, altered edge, incorporation of texture , using 3 different types of solder= Medium & Easy & “Finishing”!
  • Practice piercing, cutting, soldering & sanding.
  • Learn to practice safety procedures while making jewelry. (SAFETY GLASSES AND HAIR TIES!)
  • Learn to operate the drill press, flexible shaft & buffer.
  • Practice sweat & pick solder.
  • Practice annealing metal (when needed & how) & bend on a bracelet mandrel.

April-May/DECEMBER:

Soldering your bezel ends closed.
