Tryout Criteria
CHSAA specifies that the school’s best 3 tennis players must be the varsity team’s singles players. Singles positions are based on match play results. Match play results also determine the delineation between squad levels.
Once the squads are determined, the coaches assign doubles partners. The criteria for determining who plays with a certain partner will be based on variables such as doubles skills, compatibility, attitude and commitment.
The doubles teams may be any combination of squad members after the best three players have been determined. However, the #1 doubles team must be the squad’s best doubles team, the #2 doubles team will be the squads second best doubles team, etc.
Varsity carries 11 players (3 singles and 4 doubles courts), V2 carries 11 players (3 singles and 4 doubles courts), JV will be the remaining players up to 25 ( all doubles courts)
YOU MUST KNOW HOW TO PLAY A MATCH WITHOUT HELP. IF YOU ARE WANTING TO TRYOUT FOR TENNIS ITS BEST YOU KNOW THE BASIC STROKES(FOREHAND, BACKHAND AND SERVE), WHERE TO STAND ON THE COURT AND HOW TO SCORE.
Tryouts Process(first 1.5 weeks depending on weather)
We will form an initial ladder with consideration to players previous season positions and skill assessments. From there we will set singles and doubles matches based on the players performance in the matches then we will update the ladder positions to establish Varsity, V2 and JV teams. Players will then have opportunities to improve their positions by 1 through challenge matches during the week of tryouts or if deemed necessary during any other time at coaches discretion but once the teams are set after tryouts or the week following tryouts the teams will be set. It is up to the player to come to coaches to request a challenge match, if the coaches believe both players have a fair chance of winning, they will approve the match, however, at anytime during try-outs and challenge matches if you have lost to the same player twice, the challenge is complete.
If you are are an incoming freshman or joining tennis for the first time, we will put you where we see you fit.
