We are part of the Chatfield Senior High School tennis program. As such, we follow:
The rules and regulations set forth by Jefferson County Schools
The rules and regulations of the Colorado High School Athletic Association (CSHAA).
The rules and regulations set by your lovely coaches :)
Tournament players should be aware that you need the express written permission of the principal (CHSAA bylaws 2100.2 and/or 2110) if you plan on participating in any non school tennis activity or event during the high school season
Sportsmanship Rules (as established by CHSAA) will be strictly followed. For example, no swearing, no throwing rackets, etc. In a match, this will cost you a point; a second offense will cost you a game, and a third means you are disqualified.
Training Rules (as established by the Jefferson County League Board of Control) will be strictly enforced. Tennis has a zero tolerance policy for alcohol, drug and tobacco use. If you are caught using any of these substances, you will be suspended based on District Policy.
The coaches have the prerogative to have an athlete sit out a match for any of the following reasons: if said athlete is blatantly disrespectful to a teammate or coach, is disqualified due to sportsmanship or misses a practice/match without giving notice.
If you are playing two sports this season or involved in an extracurricular activtiy such as the musical that will hinder practices or matches, you must come talk to the coaches ASAP before tryouts begin.
Practices will be held at the Ranch House from 4-6PM Monday through Friday. Transportation is not provided from Chatfield to the Ranch House. If you are unable to find a ride, please contact one of the coaches and we will figure something out for you! In the case there is a snowstorm or rain, there may be practices at the Community Center or at Chatfield. That will be communicated to you via this website or app.
I expect all the girls to be at the Ranch House by 3:55 PM ready to warm up. When things come up that preclude this (e.g., illness, having to stay after school for a test, etc.) then it is the athlete's responsibility to contact their coach before noon the day of. If you have one unexcused practice of the week we have a match, you will not be able to participate in the following match. For example, the week April 1-5, if you have a an unexcused absence on April 3rd, you will not be able to participate in the match on April 5th.
I expect each team member will put forth sincere effort at every practice. Besides the physical aspect, this means respecting your teammates and your opponents. Disrespect and/or "attitude" will not be tolerated.
Be prepared! With the Spring Season, you never know what mother nature is going to throw at us. With that being said, make sure you have a tennis racquet, tennis shoes, a water bottle (Hydration is good!), shorts, T-shirt, sweatpants, and a sweatshirt.
Attire: I expect all the ladies to wear appropriate attire. Please do not show up wearing revealing tank tops, bottoms, or inappropriate attire. We expect you to wear tennis shoes (tennis or running)- NO CONVERSE OR FLIP FLOPS. We want to be represented a young, appropriate, respectful ladies. You represent yourself, your family, and your school! In the case you are not meeting these expectations, one of the coaches will be having a conversation with you.
Typically During Practice:
We will warm up/conditioning for 10-15 minutes- Get the body moving as this will help implement good habits for the rest of your life!
The next 1.5 hours will consist of different drills (depending on what "needs work"), match play, and games!
The last 10-15 minutes will typically be a cool down and stretch. This will help provide good habits for the future.
In the last 5 minutes, I will have each of the girls go around all of the courts to make sure all of the balls/trash are picked up so we can leave the facility the way we found it.
During practice, you MUST be respectful to the facility, the coaches and your teammates. If this is not met, you will be having a one on one conversation with a coach.
Academics:
Ladies are STUDENT ATHLETES. With that being said, being a student comes before being an athlete. I expect all the girls to set goals and expectations for themselves with their school work as I know the tennis season can get pretty busy.
If you have one F you will be able to practice but not play in a match until the grade is raised. If you have 1 F, you also will be required to attend study lab with AD Watson on Tuesday mornings from 8:05-8:50 am.
If you are CSHAA ineligible (Two F's) you will not be able to practice or a play in a match until the grade it up
If you need extra support please come talk to me as I am sure we can figure out a solution to help get your grade raised.
Matches:
I expect you to come to all of the matches. When things come up that preclude this (e.g., illness, having to stay after school for a test, etc.) then it is the athlete's responsibility to get in contact with their coach 24 hours in advance so we can plan accordingly.
I expect each team member put forth sincere effort at every match that we play. Besides the physical aspect, this means respecting your teammates and your opponents. Disrespect and/or "attitude" will not be tolerated.
Matches typically take place at 4PM (3:30 on occasion) at the Ranch House or at the high school of the team we are playing. I expect everyone to show up at 3:30PM to start warming up (3PM if the matches start at 3:30). If there is a snowstorm or rain, we will reschedule the match any day except for a Sunday.
Girl's are expected to stay at all matches and support their teammates. You will have 2 freebies throughout the season if you have to leave for a family dinner, school work, or other extra curricular events.
You must always check in with the coach before you leave. If you do not, there will be consequences!
ALWAYS respect the facility you are at (home or away). Pick up your trash, pick up your balls, and say THANK YOU TO THE COACH OF THE OPPOSING TEAM.
In the event you finish your match early, I expect you to be working on homework, or cheering on your teammates!
Parents, family and spectator friends are encouraged to learn basic tennis etiquette; this means everyone should abide by classic tennis sportsmanship rules. For example, you should cheer/applaud only when your athlete hits a winner or plays a great point. This also means you should not cheer when the opponent misses an easy shot or double faults. Congratulating your athletes opponent (win or lose) on a match well played is an example of Charger class and grace!
Overall Behavior:
My expectations are that we will have fun!
You must be kind to yourself. Tennis is a mental game (I understand that) but always treat yourself with respect.
Be kind to your teammates. Everyone has their own story. Everyone is dealing with their own problems. Being mean and rude does nothing for you or your teammates. Being kind can go a long way and I expect you to always treat others the way you would want to be treated. I will not tolerant bullying, mistreatment, or disrespect. We are a family! With that being said, if I see or hear disrespect from multiple team members and or parents about someone else, a conversation will follow along with your first strike. You must comply and have POSITIVE TEAM COHESION!
Treat the facilities with respect. Pick up your balls, belongings, and trash at every practice and match!
You represent yourself, your family, and your school. Therefore, your behavior should always be beyond reproach. Whether you are school, Chipotle, in Denver, you are representing the tennis team.
Bring a positive attitude! No one likes to hang out with a Negative Nelly. When you bring positive energy is it contagious and makes the environment more pleasant!
Team members are expected to assist the coach and team captains with certain duties when asked. Some examples of duties would be picking up balls, setting up score cards, roll-drying wet courts, shoveling, cleaning up after a match, etc.
If you are unable to cooperate with any of these expectations, there will be consequences. 1st strike, sit out for a match, 2nd strike, off the team for a week, third strike, kicked off of the team.
If you sign up to play tennis, you are automatically agreeing with these terms and conditions.
