Meet our Fall Theatre Director!
Hello Panthers.
My name is Mrs. Reed and I will be directing A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
I was the theatre director at Standley Lake High School for 24 years. I just retired last May, but when I found out Pomona needed a high school director for the fall play, I jumped at the chance to work with all of the enthusiastic theatre students here. (Side note: some of you might know my husband, Mr. Reed, who taught instrumental music at Pomona.)
My directing philosophy: I am very much a believer in Ensemble Theatre. In an ensemble everyone has the same goal: to create the best show possible. It emphasises the success of the whole group, with everyone working together (lead roles, non-speaking roles, booth crew, stage crew, box office, etc.) The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
FALL PLAY
The action takes place on Midsummer Night. It’s a time when the veil between the human world and the realm of fairies and magic is believed to be thin. Two sets of young lovers set out into the forest where they encounter a mischievous sprite named Puck.
Director's Note: First and foremost - do not be intimidated by Shakespeare. This particular play is easy to understand and it’s a really great comedy.
Auditions will be held in the theater on September 8 from 3:45-6:00pm. Open 9th-12th grade
What do I need to do in order to audition? Probably the most important thing to know about auditions is that this will be a no-cut play. All students who are academically eligible will be cast. There are four AUDITION SCENES provided for you to pick from. Select one scene and practice it (with a partner if you have one.) I strongly recommend that you print it out and highlight it (old school) rather than read it off your phone at the audition. This is not a requirement, just a recommendation. You do NOT need to memorize the selection, but the more familiar you are with the scene, the better your audition will be. Feel free to move around, use the stage. You don’t have to stand in one spot as you read the script. Please be familiar with all the scenes as you may be asked to read more than just the one you have prepared. Students will audition in the theater together. We will all be present and we will all watch all of the auditions. This is a community effort. We are all in this together and we are all supportive of each other.
How can I prepare? Look up the play, read a plot summary, watch a movie version or clips of stage productions. The more background information you have, the better informed you will be about the characters.

All performers and technical crew will need to register in the activities program Arbiter. Choose 2026-2027 Activities registration under Programs. One account per family and please complete this before auditions and interviews
