Child Development (Grades 9-12)

Semester Course

The purpose of Child and Adolescent Development is to acquire knowledge and understanding of child and adolescent development necessary for strengthening the well-being of children and families. Content focuses on perspectives of human development, research and theories, understanding and nurturing development, and challenges to development.

Life Management (Grades 10-12)

Semester Course

Students in Life Management will develop decision-making skills to become educated consumers with an understanding and academic knowledge of consumer resources and financial organizations. The course focuses on personal and family resources, job and career, personal and family finances, and wellness. (Relevant topics include: independent living, healthy lifestyles, career research and job portfolios, personal financial literacy, investments, credit, insurance, leasing vs. purchasing of autos and homes.

FCCLA

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a Career and Technical Student Organization that functions as an integral part of the Family and Consumer Sciences education curriculum and operates within the school system. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues. Through participation in Competitive Events, becoming involved in community service opportunities, student leadership, and attending leadership conferences, members develop real world skills, explore Career Pathways, and become college- and career-ready.
