at home

Many parents wrongly believe that at-home internet filtering is expensive or difficult to set up. Recently, a number of internet security companies have developed inexpensive, easy-to-install filtering options for home internet. Here are some recommended resources for parents to filter the web for their entire home wi-fi network.

If your child is using a Chromebook, and they log in to the Chromebook with their @jeffcityschools Google account, they will actually have the web filtering at home as they do at school. However, their experience will also be limited by the same app and extension restrictions as they have at school.

Circle

Circle allows parents to control access for each device connected to their wi-fi network, including setting time limits for apps or device use, blocking harmful web content, pausing internet access, and monitoring usage.

Securly Hub

Securly is a company trusted by many school districts to provide filtering for their student devices. They also offer a home option. This device plugs into your current wireless router, and creates a separate wi-fi network for your child's devices that you can control.

OPENDNS

OpenDNS offers free web-filtering for families. This is a more involved installation process, but step-by-step instructions are offered for a variety of different configurations.
