Ashley Culwell

Art Instructor Ashley Culwell has been teaching Visual Arts at the secondary level since 2014Mrs. Culwell also teaches at a Fine Arts Camp during the summer. Mrs. Culwell received her Bachelors in Science in Apparel Design and Textiles from the University of Alabama with a minor in Studio Art.  Mrs. Culwell received her Masters in Art Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She is also AP Studio Art certified through the Savannah College of Art and Design. Mrs. Culwell has also served as NAHS sponsor since 2016 which provides students opportunities for community service and leadership through the visual arts.  Mrs. Culwell has previously served as Fine Art Dept Chair, AAEA Membership Chair and is currently the AAEA Technology and Website Chair, as well as, the Technology and Curriuculum Development Curator through the Jefferson County Visual Arts Department's Board of Advisors.  

Special Awards and Highlights

In 2016, Mrs. Culwell won AAEA Alabama New Professional Art Educator of the Year Award,  and in 2020 she won AAEA  Secondary Art Teacher of the year award.  During her six years at Clay-Chalkville High School, she received Teacher of the Month in 2018, 2019, and 2021 along with Most Inspiring Teacher from the Class of 2020 and Overall Favorite Teacher from the Class of  2024.

Through her facilitation and guidance, Mrs. Culwell has had winners for the Youth Art Month Flag Design from 2018-2023. State Superintendent's Visual Art Exhibit and Alabama Bicentennial celebration Show Division Winner 2018. State Superintendent's Visual Art Exhibit and Alabama Bicentennial celebration Show Best in Show 2019
