Let’s have a splash!

By: Peter

Summit Middle School otherwise known as SMS,

has 6th grade and 7th swimming in PE.

Today we asked the 3 main PE teachers, Mr. Shultz, Mr. Pottaff, and Mrs. Scott.

The questions that were asked was,

When will the pool open for every class?

What are some pros and cons for swimming here?

What will we do in the pool?

It’s been 1 week and we do not have a response but we do have some information.

Mr. Pottaff’s class is already swimming.

Mrs. Scott’s class is swimming Tuesday, October 18th, and Friday, October 21st

Mr. Schultz’s class swims on Tuesday, October 25, and October 27, Thursday.

Some pros of Swimming at the SMS middle school

  1. There are Gym teachers that will save you if necessary.

  2. By the end of the year, they guarantee you can swim.

  3. There is a swimming test you have to pass before you swim in the 12ft section.

  4. There’s multiple students that will be next to you, so you won’t feel left out.

  5. It’s for fun and learning how to swim.

Now some Cons for swimming at the SMS middle school.

  1. Changing In front of other students may be uncomfortable for some people.

  2. A lot of people in one changing room.

  3. Hair will be wet for a couple minutes during other classes.

  4. If you don’t pass the swimming test you may be by yourself in the 3ft section and it kinda gets lonely.

  5. Need, underwear,extra pants,extra shirts,and a towel.

What we will be doing in the pool is still unknown but I will update you guys.

Splash into summit

By Noah Pfalzgraf

I asked Mr. Pottoff some questions about swimming in summits pool

Here are the questions

Has there ever been any trouble with swimming?

No. About every student that has swim has a very good time.

Some students are nervous about swimming, but once they get in the pool it doesn’t seem as scary. We have a shallow end where everyone can stand and touch the bottom.

What’s the expectations

The expectation is the same as normal PE, try and participate. We understand that students are at different ability levels but everyone should do their own individual best.

The second expectation is to change quickly and act approximately in the locker room, which most students do.

Does P.E get more people time or less time for last period

Each class period is the same. PE teachers will let the students to get out of the pool and change 12 minutes before the class end

bell rings.

Does P.E have pool toys

Yes! Typically the class looks like a “to-do list”. Once students complete the “to-do list” they are allowed to have free swim and use the pool toys.

Diving rings, diving bricks, inflatable tubes, footballs, and “Bob”!

Chess Club Begins

By Edmond

Chess club is starting on November 9th and it will be exiting. Because many people have anticipated it’s starting this year. It is also interesting in case you want to try new things, and it’s for 6th and seventh graders.
