Creating an HTML Block

An HTML block can be added to the left or right frames of a Moodle course. Multiple HTML Blocks can be added to course layouts (it is not limited to one).

An HTML Block can have a variety of information in it. It can have text, graphics, embedded VOKI, links, etc.

Steps to Insert HTML Block

  1. In the Moodle course, turn editing on.

  2. Add a Block > HTML Block.

  3. Choose the Edit tool (paper/pencil icon).

  4. Enter the text that you will use as hyperlinks to the course content. Save the Block.

Inserting a Voki into an HTML Block

1. Create a Voki character on voki.com.

2. Choose Publish.

3. In the pop-up window, set the size at the top, then copy the Embed code to the computer clipboard.

4. In the HTML Block, choose Edit.

5.In the Edit box, choose the Source icon.

6. Paste the code into this Source Code box. Then, move back to the regular editing window by clicking on the Source icon again.

7. Save.

Creating a Table of Contents in an HTML Block

A table of contents can be created to jump to certain parts of a Moodle course. The HTML Block is used to put the table of contents items in. A Moodle course can have multiple HTML Blocks.

  1. In the Moodle course, turn the editing on.

  2. Add a Block > HTML Block.

  3. Choose the Edit tool (paper/pencil icon).

  4. Enter the text that you will use as hyperlinks to the course content.

  5. Save the Block.

  6. Go back to the course and click on the item for the first Table of Contents link.

  7. When it is displaying on the screen, go up and copy the web address of that page.

  8. Go back to the Table of Content HTML Block, choose the edit icon and highlight the text for the hyperlink.

  9. In the editing toolbar, choose the link icon, and paste the web address link in the field. Choose OK to Save it.

  10. Save the block.

  11. Repeat copying and pasting the hyperlink locations to the Table of Content text links.
