Importing ExamView Tests into Moodle

ExamView tests can be imported into Moodle and used in the Moodle Quiz tool. There isn’t a Moodle export format available into ExamView, but another format may be used. ExamView needs to be version 5+. ExamView tests can also be exported as a study guide and then imported into Moodle as a web page.

Using ExamView as a Moodle Quiz

Step 1: ExamView Export

1. Build or open a test/question bank in ExamView.

2. Choose File > Export. Then choose the Blackboard 6.0-7.0 format. A dialog box will open.

3. Choose the save location for the exported file. Enter a filename and save. The question content will be saved as a .zip file.

4. Complete the dialog options with entries. Moodle does not use these entries but something needs to be entered in the fields and it is required to complete the process for the exported file.

5. The questions and images are compressed into a .zip file. This file needs to be uploaded into Moodle.

6. In Moodle, go to the Administration Block > Question Bank > Import.

7. Choose Blackboard and drop the .zip file into the window and Import.

8. After the questions import, scroll to the bottom and select Continue.

Step 2: Creating a Quiz and Importing Exam View Questions

1. In Moodle, choose Add an Activity/Resource > Quiz.

2. Set up a quiz (name, timing, attempts, grading, review options, overall feedback) and Save Settings.

3. In the Quiz, choose Add a question, Add from Question Bank, or a Random Question. To get the ExamView questions, choose Add from Question Bank.

4. Select the questions to add to the quiz.

5 Reorder the questions, if necessary. Save.

6. After adding questions to the quiz, use Edit and Preview to polish the quiz.
