Connecting to a Projector (JHS)

Setup information about the audio/video equipment installed in classrooms at Johnston High School.

Available Inputs

Each classroom at JHS is outfitted with an A/V system which can handle both VGA and HDMI inputs. It is not necessary to be connected to the Internet in order to use the A/V system, but you will need to have a copy of your presentation saved locally to your computer.

HDMI cable

VGA cable

HDMI (left) will transfer video and sound. VGA (right) transfers only video, so if your presentation requires sound and you are using a VGA connection, make sure to also use the auxiliary cord that plugs into your computer’s headphone jack.

Video Adapters

If you will be using a MacBook computer, you may need a cable adapter to use the existing A/V setup.

HDMI > Mini DisplayPort adapter

VGA > Mini DisplayPort adapter

If you will be using a PC, these typically have VGA or HDMI inputs built into them and do not require adapters.

Wall Panel

The A/V system is controlled by a wall panel with a variety of inputs. For both VGA and HDMI, you will use the top button only. Pressing the button multiple times switches between VGA and HDMI. You will see the color of the button change from red to green and the type of input will flash on the projection screen to let you know which setting is currently applied.
