How to Set Up Google Calendar

Creating and Naming Events

1. Log into your JDragonmail account. Click on the app switcher icon and select Calendar.

2. On the calendar page, click somewhere in the white space on the date you want to set an event.

3. In the event line, use the naming convention:

Course - Assignment/Activity/Description

If you want to fill out more details, do so in the subsequent fields.

  • If you select "All day" for the time slot, the event will appear at the top of the calendar.

  • If you want to make a calendar for each class period to run during that time of the day, that can be done too.

  • A further description or notes for the assignment or activity can also be added in the "Add description or attachments" box.

  • Make sure to hit "Save" when you are finished.

Sharing Your Calendar

Set Calendar to Public

1. From the "My calendars" list in the left bar, hover your mouse over the name of the calendar you wish to share, then click on the three dots to open a dropdown menu.

2. Select "Settings and sharing."

3. On the Calendar sharing screen, scroll down to "Access permissions for events" and check the box next to "Make available to public." The new setting will save automatically.

Select Sharing Method

1. Share with specific people

On the Calendar sharing screen, scroll down to "Share with specific people." Type in the name or @jdragonmail.us email address of the person you would like to share the calendar with, then click "Send" to send the calendar directly to them.

2. Public URL

Scroll down to "Integrate calendar," then copy the text in the "Public URL to this calendar" box. You can share this link with people via email, posting on Moodle, or as a comment in a shared file in Showbie. This link will prompt the user to add the calendar to their Google account.

If you want to invite parents to your calendar, you could also send the link via Infinite Campus Messenger.

3. Embed code

Scroll down to "Integrate calendar," then copy the text in the "Embed code" box. This code can be copied and pasted into a Moodle code box, so that it is displayed on your Moodle page.

Once the calendar is embedded, it will display with a "+ Google Calendar" button, which viewers can use to add the calendar to their own Google account.
