During the 2022-23 school year, the JCSD TLC Site Team alongside current teacher leaders began a systemic rewrite of the growth and evaluation tools for those serving in TLC full-release positions. This work is grounded in a belief that individual and collective growth and professional learning is central to a strong teacher leadership program & the continuous improvement cycle. This was accomplished through gaining clarity on the expectations and processes that guide the evaluation cycle as well as painting a clear picture of the "look-fors" for strong coaching practices in JCSD. The work of these teams resulted in the creation of 9 standards and accompanying proficiency scales. These scales help provide clarity to the roles and make the work of the teacher leader visible in a way that fosters growth and data-centric conversations. These standards and rubrics will be utilized to guide the evaluation process for those serving in full-release TLC roles starting in 2023-24. Additionally, the scales will be utilized for goal-setting and professional development design for all teacher leadership roles in JCSD.
This products are the result of leaning into different instructional coaching thought leaders including Jim Knight, Dianne Sweeney, & Elena Aguilar. Additionally, the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL Standards) and Danielson Framework for Instructional Coaches were also a source of inspiration for the work.
