Fair Redistricting

I am Paul Fischi, a senior at Jamesville-Dewitt High School. I am very interested in politics and government and how they effect out daily life. I was inspired to pick redistricting as my topic because of the recent 2024 election cycle and the polarization of congress. It made me question how representatives are elected and how partisanship can negatively affect representation nationwide, and in this case state-wide.

As of what I want to do to mitigate gerrymandering, I wish to spread awareness locally and statewide about what redistricting is, and how to petition the government on how to fix it. Specifically the New York Redistricting Board has the power to create fair maps and bolstering itself as an institution is a necessary step to ensure more proportional representation for New Yorkers
