My name is Meghan Culligan and my topic was sustainability in schools and the barriers to funding for sustainable initiatives in schools. I chose this topic because I believe that it is important to understand how our schools and our footprint impacts the world around us, and how sustainable practices should be integrated into everyday life. I also feel that now more than ever, it is essential to provide funding for schools to implement these sustainable alternatives in order to better the school and better the planet. My capstone project would not have been complete without all of the help and guidance from my outside mentors. A huge thank you to Mr. Falter, Mr. Furlong, Mr. Sommer, State Senator John Mannion, Rochelle Strassner, Mrs. Sweeney, Mr. Clinton, Ms. Moore, and Ms. Panek for their mentorship throughout this project.Â
Research Question: what barriers exist to schools becoming more sustainable, and how can those barriers be eliminated?
