My name is Jalynn Guido and my project was on the lack of diversity in dance. I had a research question of why is there such a lack of diversity in dance? Some community members that helped were Elaine Wolf, Ruth Arena, and Benny simion. They each indivuially helped in there own way but with all of there expertise it helped me put mu project to what it is today. Through out my time doing this project I found out that there are a lot of barriers that make it diffcult for people of low-income families to take dance. I like to think of it as the triple effect. First tickets to see proffesional ballets are really expensive so a child who is of the minority might never see a professional ballet. So these younger kids are seeing someone on stage doing something that could one day be them. Then there is one of the biggest barriers, the price. It takes a lot of money to get a good dance education. Most people take dance pay a minimium of $215 a month. That is not a price that all families can afford to pay. So for my finial project I knew that I wanted to hold a dance workshop for free just to spread the joy of ballet with the younger generation.
