Thanks to Sara Mesick, Don Moore, and Temple Grandin's book "Animals Make Us Human" I was able to learn about the different aspects of a dog's physical and mental processes.

My project consists of different organizations that specialize in pets. Through a public event with Helping Hounds and other organizations such as Pets of CNY, I hoped to attract current and potential pet owners to come and learn more about how to understand and take care of their pets in the best ways possible. Helping Hounds will also be there with adoptable dogs for those looking to adopt.
I had thought that coming up with a project would come easy. However, in the end I strayed far off the path I had originally made for myself. I was set on neuro-plasticity and how we can do the current research to change the brain and how people think. But, I soon realized I had overreached. I knew I wouldn’t be able to make something I would be proud of with less than a year of neuroscience research. So I decided to focus on something more personal, Lily. On January 13th, 2022 I got Lily, a 3 pound miniature poodle. When I thought of something that I find close to my heart, Lily was the first thing to pop into my mind. I based my project around expanding my knowledge about having pets because when I look back at my first couple of months with Lily, I now realize that they were not ideal. I remember how unprepared I was. Waking up to heart wrenching cries every night; the process of training; constant vet visits. It was more difficult than I had anticipated. I couldn’t help but wish I had prior knowledge and connections from people that are around pets all the time for their jobs.
