Q1 Roundtable
My first Roundtable experience was nerve-racking. Mr. Yanchuk and Ms. Delaney were very engaging throughout the presentation, and even asked about whether or not I'd include words in my mural (something I had not considered). The rest of the conversation circled around the different groups/topics not being covered by history classes and the lack of representation due to the standardized-testing based classes.
Q2 Roundtable
I had been spending the second quarter planning the mural's composition, whom I would include in it, and I had planned on adding a supplementary website giving more detail about the individuals I included. I wanted to focus the mural on queer people of color, as they are the most ignored in terms of telling the story of LGBTQ+ rights.
Mid-April status update
By this point, I was losing steam with the artistic process of planning the mural, and the general stresses outside of school made me reconsider my capstone project. I knew I wanted the topic to remain where it was, but form it was going to take needed adjustment. By April, I had decided to just make a website rather than a mural and a website. It would still consist of queer historical individuals throughout US history, however it would include information about them and various links to places that educate on different groups and identities.
