Is there something in your past that you used to love lost to time? Do you wish it was still around? Well, the reason it's gone in the first place is that it wasn't properly preserved or upkept. I'm Athen Booth, and this is what I aim to help prevent for video games and their future. Over 80% of all video games ever made don't even exist anymore. This could be due to obscure hardware, poor advertising, anything. There are so many reasons video games have been lost to time. This led me to question how I could prevent this, specifically, how can video game preservation (like emulation or data moles) be used to help video gamers and developers for future generations? I've thought about this for years, even having a collection of my own emulators full of games I have copied and saved from my own personal collection (yes, believe it or not, there are people who emulate who aren't pirates). I've even modified consoles for game preservation reasons! A great example, and my most recent one being my PlayStation 3, a console from 2006 made by Sony. I modified the console to use Custom Firmware (CFW) and allow me to copy physical discs onto the hard drive of the console, making the game digitally kept safe in case the disc gets damaged (i.e. scratched, snapped, etc.). I do this because I've personally experienced loss of games that I still to this day cannot find, this is because they weren't properly preserved and I never want to experience that again.
