Financial Aid Application for 2021-2022 is now available!
At Jill Chaifetz Transfer School, we offer opportunities for our students to challenge themselves. In addition to being college and career ready, the skills that students take away from their AP and College Now classes are useful in school, the business world and in life.
Study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the United States from c. 1491 to the present. You’ll analyze texts, visual sources, and other historical evidence and write essays expressing historical arguments. This course will be taught by one of our very own teachers, Kimberly.
What are the benefits of taking AP US History?
There are plenty! You can save money on tuition if you pass the AP Exam with a score of 3 or higher and these classes help develop college-level academic skills. Admissions officers look for students who challenge themselves and this will make you stand out among other applicants.
What does the AP Exam look like?
The AP Exam is approximately 3 hrs 15 mins. There are three components in the exam that include multiple choice, short answer, and free response.
Can accommodations are available to students with IEPs?
Students with a documented disability may be eligible to receive an exam accommodation so make sure to get your accommodations approved in advance. Accommodations available include: extended time, large-type exams, a written copy of spoken test instructions, a reader to dictate questions, a writer to record responses, braille devices, computer, or magnifying device.
College Now is a collaborative program between the City University of New York (CUNY) and the New York City Department of Education (DOE). It is a FREE dual enrollment and transition program for qualified NYC high school students.
At JCTS, we offer Speech 100 for College Now and it is taught by our Lead Teacher, Michael. Students can get 3 college credits upon passing the course. Once you've completed your application, please email it to Stella at sdeng@bronxworks.org.
What are the benefits of this program?
High school students get to experience the richness of college life while still working toward their diploma. College Now students can take college credit courses for FREE. As a result, students save time and money in college as well as get ahead of their peers. Students also receive a college ID which can be used to access discounts and cultural sites throughout NYC.
Will the college credits in College Now transfer after graduation?
In most cases, College Now credits will transfer within the CUNY system. Credits may transfer to colleges outside the CUNY system. Students should check with the colleges to which they are applying regarding credit transfer policies.
Can I take the same College Now course over?
Unfortunately, if a student has already gained credit from a College Now course, they cannot take it a second time for additional credit.
