Hello Parents!
With the start of the new year we love to teach about safety! This year, Jackson County has adopted the Child Safety Matters curriculum. With this curriculum we focus on teaching students about the 5 Safety Rules:
These rules help children to understand safe and unsafe situations and how to talk to a safe adult about them. We talk about bullying and how to be an upstander instead of a bystander. Kindness is contagious, so be kind to others! We also talk about digital safety and how to look out for unsafe situations online. Here is a link to the 5 Safety Rules and how to talk to your kids about them! https://mbfpreventioneducation.org/mbf-5-safety-rules/

Georgia Cycling’s Trail Rangers program invites adventurous students in Grades 2–5 to explore the outdoors, discover the joy of cycling, and build confidence in a fun, supportive environment. With encouraging coaches, engaging activities, and an emphasis on exploration over competition, kids gain skills, friendships, and unforgettable trail memories—all while staying safe and having a blast.
Jackson County Trail Rangers — Georgia Cycling's Trail Rangers
We will begin our journey at Crow’s Lake in Jefferson and then have rides at Fort Yargo State Park in Winder and also Virginia Walker Park (Trail Creek Trails) in Athens. Following about six weeks of fun skills sessions, we will head out for 4 expeditions.
Expedition 2026 Schedule — Georgia Cycling's Trail Rangers
Saturday, April 18th at Allatoona Park in Acworth Georgia
Saturday, April 25th at Road Atlanta in Braselton Georgia
Saturday, May 9th at Dausset Trails in Jackson Georgia
Saturday, May 16th at Kingston Downs in Rome Georgia
In the spring of 2025, we had 15 riders for the inaugural season. This past fall, all 5 of our 5th graders moved up to the Team MTB 6th grade team and competed for top spots weekly.
We have 7 coaches registered for 2026 and are looking forward to expanding the fun for the team in Jackson County.

We are thrilled to announce all JCSS schools are adopting the Raptor Safe mobile application as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing school safety, while streamlining visitor management check-in at our schools. The Raptor Safe app builds upon existing visitor procedures, offering a more convenient and secure check-in process for visitors.
What is the Raptor Safe App?
The Raptor Safe app offers a convenient and secure way for visitors to manage and verify their identity before arriving at a school. With the Raptor Passport feature, visitors can pre-verify their identity, allowing for a seamless sign-in process when they arrive on campus.
How Does It Work?
When visiting a school, visitors can use their secure QR code generated by the app to expedite the check-in process. QR codes automatically regenerate every 5 minutes to ensure security and prevent misuse.

Infinite Campus and Parent Square
It is VERY IMPORTANT for all families to set up an Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account. Click HERE to set up your child's account. This account allows you to receive important school messages through the Parent Square app, see student grades and attendance. If you have trouble with this process, email Mrs. West (rebecca.west@jcss.us). After a parent portal account has been activated, please allow 24 hours for the information to sync with the Parent Square app to be able to message teachers. If you are unable to use Parent Square at any time, please send your child's teacher an email.

PBIS
Parents, as a PBIS school, we strive to create a positive learning environment for all our students and staff. We utilize a schoolwide approach to teach, model, and reinforce positive behaviors, actions, and words. Here at WJES, we use the PAWS framework: Pride, Attitude, Work, and Safety. Through classroom lessons, videos, and activities, we explain what Pride, Attitude, Work, and Safety should look and sound like throughout our school building. Our PAWS matrix is displayed around the school and in classrooms. Why PBIS? Why PAWS? They help provide clear expectations for our students, establish a common language for everyone, and foster a positive school culture.
Every day, our students are recognized for demonstrating PAWS in the hallways, classrooms, lunchroom, playground, and even on the bus! Student recognition can be verbal, visual, or tangible. Students may be recognized through verbal praise, a high five, DOJO/PBIS points or tickets, student of the month awards, Mindset student of the month awards, or even with a gold coin for the book vending machine.
