An Interactive Science Notebook ("ISN")is the equivalent of your student's textbook this semester. The notebook will contain your students notes, activities, vocabulary, and important class information. Parents will be required to sign a sheet stating that they have seen their student's notebook each unit. This is to ensure accountability in the classroom, and also pride in one's classwork. There is an example of another teacher's ISN Setup to the Right. Our class ISN will be very similar, but not entirely the same.
When you open a book, does it make sense of the chapters are out of order? Of course not! The secondary purpose of the interactive notebook is to help students develop organizational skills. As such, the layout of the ISN is very important to receiving a good grade. Not only do you need to complete the pages, but you need to make sure they're in the right order! Each section of the Interactive Notebook has it's own 'Table of Contents' that help students find the right information when they need it and in a timely fashion. The Tables of Contents are located below if you need to check on the order. Please note that ONLY the left 'pages' of the notebook are ordered!
