The Tennessee Concrete Association is offering a scholarship (up to $250) and entries must be submitted by January 22nd, 2021. Those of you interested in construction management or any future employment involving concrete and are currently between the ages of 16 and 18 should go to: www.tnconcrete.org (Links to an external site.) for more info and to apply.
Any student 9-12 who has outstanding community service should consider applying for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. Go to http://spirit.prudential.com to access the online application. November 10th is the deadline to apply. Past state winners for Science Hill have included Girl Scout Eagle Award recipients and Eagle Scouts, but anyone with outstanding community service should apply.
The Elks Most Valuable Scholarship Application is now available. Seniors (U.S. Citizens only) who have demonstrated outstanding academics, community service and have financial need should apply for this scholarship. The Elks National Foundation additionally offers awards and grants to students whose parents or grandparents are members or were member of a local Elks Lodge as well as nursing scholarships and more. See your counselor for more information or go online to enf.elks.org/mvs. Deadline for the MVP Elks scholarship is November 15, 2020.
If you and your family have a household income of less than $50,000 a year and you are eligible for the Hope scholarship, then you may qualify for free tuition at UT-Knoxville, UT-Chattanooga, UT-Martin, or the University of Memphis (student is still responsible for the cost of room/board, books, fees, etc). Ask your counselor for more information on this program!

Seniors with outstanding academics, leadership potential, and community service that are interested in being nominated for the Jefferson Scholarship at UVA must submit their resume to their counselor by November 2nd. Jefferson Scholars are provided free tuition, room and board, a living stipend, and opportunities to study abroad. See your counselor for more information.
Davidson’s flagship merit scholarship program, is for those students who have reached the highest order of academic and personal accomplishment.
Belk Scholars:
demonstrate purposeful engagement and success in the classroom, with student and civic organizations, and in myriad other activities.
exhibit deep intellectual curiosity and evidence commitment to, and impact upon, both their local and global communities.
Belk Scholars receive:
An award covering room, board, tuition and fees, valued in 2020-21 at $70,225.
Two special study stipends, up to $3,000 each, for international travel/special learning opportunities.
Nomination materials are due Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
SHHS has the opportunity to nominate two seniors to be considered for the U.S. Presidential Scholars program. One senior may be nominated from each school for the general academic component of the program, and one senior may be nominated for the CTE component of the program.
General Academic Component applicants are based on academic success and perseverance. The program emphasizes the following areas on their application:
Academic achievement
Leadership skills
Community involvement
Overcoming obstacles
Strong writing skills
CTE Component applicants are considered based on excellence in career and technical education (CTE). This component emphasizes the following areas on the application:
Academic rigor
Technical competence
Employability skills
Ingenuity and creativity
Students interested in being considered for one of SHHS’s nominations for either program should turn their resume in to their counselor no later than October 30th.
