The ArtLitFilm Club meets every other Friday to discuss films we have watched and related art and literature. The selection of works is student-led, and we always look forward to having new members join us.

The SHHS Beta Club is a service organization that promotes character, develops leadership skills, encourages service involvement and recognizes achievement. The SHHS Beta Club is split into 9th-10th and 11th-12th students. Mrs. Laufenberg is in charge of the 9-10 students. Tammy Keller is in charge of the 11-12 students. There are a couple of projects that are the same, but the rest are different based on grade level.

The SHHS Beta Club is open to any junior or senior students who meet the following requirements: 3.5 GPA by the end of sophomore or junior year, 15 hours of community service per year in the club, regular participation in meetings, and involvement in 2 clubwide service activities per year. Applications will be available until October. Students wishing to join must do so before the end of October; with a membership fee of $20. Seniors must meet all requirements in order to receive honors cords for graduation.

The Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy is both a leadership training and service organization. It meets once a week to learn leadership skills through video and practical experiential activities. There is also a service component involved that can get you community service hours for graduation and TN/VA scholar. This club is only open to the junior and senior classes.

Chess Club introduces students to the game of chess and provides a regularly scheduled time for students to meet and play in a relaxed setting. Students learn the names and movements of the chess pieces as well as basic rules of play. Sets are provided during meetings at school. At this time, the club does not travel or participate in tournaments.

The coding club teachers students to code on their Chromebooks in Python using interactive programs developed by industry experts. Students will also apply their coding skills to scientific computing, graphic design, and creative tasks.

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. FCCLA offers intra-curricular resources and opportunities for students to pursue careers that support families. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

The Gamers Club welcomes all RPG, table top, and card game fans. Most of the club is devoted to Dungeons & Dragons. New players and experts are welcome to play D&D, create characters, watch, learn and even become a Dungeon Master! The Green Team is for students who have a passion for the environment and sustainability. The Green Team recycles all paper products placed in recycling bins on school grounds. Hats for the Homeless meets on Fridays to knit and enjoy the company of servant focused students to help those in need in our community. Beginning knitters use a loom to make hats and scarves. Instruction on knitting with knitting needles is also given. The goal is to make 200 hates by Christmas. The club does not meet in the spring semester.

HOSA is a national student organization, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the healthcare industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.
HOSA Provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. HOSA is 100% health care!

The SHHS Improv Team is a club dedicated to learning and performing improvisation comedy and games in the style of Whose Line Is It, Anyway? All students are invited to attend and play improv games, although membership in the Improv Team is by audition. The Improv Team performs for the public once a month on a Friday evening in Studio 535.

Mediæval Battle Association re-creates the fighting styles and techniques of the mediæval world in a safe setting using materials (foam swords and pikes) to simulate the weapons and warfare in the age before gunpowder. Try some mediæval that you are guaranteed to survive!

Mindfulness club is a space for students to develop skills to manage stress from school, work, relationships, and other areas of their lives. Students learn and practice strategies to help them keep calm and stay focused in order to maintain a healthy, positive outlook and be successful both in and outside of school.

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extracurricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which is usually organized by a high school or college MUN club. In our club, we first focus on learning HOW to represent a country as a representative, then start the process of learning how to take slides in a relative discussion to pertinent topics in the current day climate.

Psychology Club is open to all students who are interested in the study of psychology or counseling as a career choice. One major service project is to promote resources to students who are struggling with depression and suicide during Suicide Prevention Awareness week.

The Art Club is for students who have a passion to create and support the arts. Art Club creates t-shirts, face paints for elementary schools, makes decorations for classes, and more. Students are required to participate in these activities to be a member. To become an official member students are required to attend two meetings and pay their $10 dues. Previously being enrolled in an art class is not required, but is preferred.

Scholars Bowl is a competitive opportunity to expand on a student's academic knowledge with other intelligent students. Students grow in memory skills and speed of recall. Team members practice weekly or more often to accumulate and use a wise variety of information, mathematics, science, literature, and historical knowledge. In the fall, Scholar Bowl competes in the Northeast Tennessee PBS Scholars Bowl, a televised program shown throughout the year on our local PBS television station. Anyone can join and can start at any time in their high school career.

The SGA is a student organization in charge of student activities. They plan, organize, and implement community service projects, school service projects, pep rallies, Homecoming, school dances, Thanksgiving Food Drive, and the Junior/Senior Prom. SGA members also serve as a leadership team with the principal. SGA consists of three campus wide senior officers, three junior and sophomore officers, and then representatives of the three grades. No officers or representatives are elected in ninth grade; any ninth grade student is welcome to be part of SGA by participating in community service. Elections for SGA are held in the last term of the second semester.

Rho Kappa is the social studies honor society. We give students opportunities to expand their knowledge of social studies and educate others at SHHS and in the community about our history. To be a member students need to have a 3.0 GPA overall and a 3.5 in their social studies courses, they also need to have completed 4 social studies courses and be on track to completing 6 before graduation.

This course is a study and practice of the fundamentals of journalism and yearbook production. The primary focus will be the production of the student yearbook. Student staff members will capture moments through photography to create a story to form the book for that year.
