Band Notes

The free of charge winter and spring Band Concerts are scheduled for Thursday, December 14th, 2023 and Thursday, May 9th, 2024 @7:00pm in the Science Hill HS Auditorium. Students need to arrive at the high school band room at 6:15pm and should be wearing all black dress clothes.

Class Expectations:

Students are expected to have their band binder, pencil, music, and fully functioning instrument in class each day.  Please help them to be prepared by making sure they have adequate materials.  Contact me first before getting repair work done.  I am happy to complete simple repairs for my students at no cost to you.  If I cannot do the repair, then I should be able to provide a loaner until the repair can be done.

Your child's class participation grade and music participation grade will be impacted if they fail to bring all necessary materials to class.  Being responsible and being prepared are two non-musical characteristics that are learned through being in band.  Please check with your son/daughter often to be sure that they have what they need to fully participate in band each day.

Band Fees:

Band fees are $40. Checks should be made payable to Liberty Bell Middle School. This is our only source of funding and is used to purchase method books, equipment, accessories, and concert literature. Please get your fair share turned in as quickly as possible. This fee can also be paid online through the www.jcschools.org website.

Practice:

Band students should attempt to practice every day.  20 minute sessions are recommended. Remember, it is more about consistency and routine than length of time. Three 20 minute sessions are far more productive than one 60 minute session.  In addition, practicing should focus on difficult passages and new concepts. Work slowly and develop correct playing habits.

Parent Note:

The band room is open for students to practice after school each day. If your son/daughter cannot take their instrument home to practice or is not going to have the opportunity to practice once they get home, please encourage them to stay after school and get their practice time in for the day. I am available for assistance if needed, but most musicians just want to practice on their own or with some friends. The band room will close at 4:00pm. Students can stay as long as they want up until that time. Pick-up is located in front of the main entrance to the school.
