Advanced English I

ObjectiveAdvanced English I is a survey course of world literature that includes the study of multiple genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama.  Additionally, the course offers extensive opportunities for research and written composition.  The course will follow the standards and objectives outlined by the state of Texas in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills or TEKS.  

 

ExpectationsAdvanced English I is a higher-level course that helps prepare students for advanced writing and reading  classes such as On-Ramps and AP EnglishAdvanced English requires students to complete multiple projects, individual reading and writing assignments, weekly Greek Roots and vocabulary words, and weekly homework assignments.  The workload will require individual study and intrinsic motivation on the student’s part.   


DUE DATES: ALL ESSAY ASSIGNMENTS ARE ASSIGNED A DUE DATE ON THE NINE WEEKS SYLLABUS.  ABSENCES ON THESE DUE DATES DO NOT EXTEND THE DUE DATE TO WHEN THE STUDENT RETURNS. ESSAYS ARE DUE ON THE DUE DATE AND SHOULD BE EMAILED IF THE STUDENT IS OR PLANS ON BEING ABSENT.  IF THE ASSIGNMENT IS NOT RECEIVED BY 4 PM OF THE DUE DATE, A ZERO WILL BE ASSIGNED AND THE ASSIGNMENT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
