Digital Identity
Teacher Learning
Digital Identity week will focus on getting students to be mindful about what they post online and how that reputation will stay with them forever. Students have a digital footprint from the first time their parents post about them online, some this is as early as a sonogram. They will learn that more positives that post, the least likely a mistake post could cause problems. Have students "google" themselves during this week and reflect on what they find. Show them how easy it is to find out where they live, go to school, etc by looking at posts and searching their names, the names of their parents, and looking through their social media posts.
Watch the video below from Common Sense Media about Digital Literacy.
While watching video reflect on:
- When did your student's digital footprint begin?
- How is that different from the beginning of your digital footprint?
- Students today socialize online more than any other group of students. Most is because our world isn't as safe as it used to be.
- Right now in 2018, student social hierarchy is this:
- Facebook = Grandparents
- Texts = Parents
- Instagram = social circle
- Snapchat = close friends
- Think about your digital footprint. Google yourself and see what you find.
