Communities in Schools Food Giveaway MAR 11
01/22/26) Communities In Schools is coordinating a Spring Break food giveaway for the Jarrell community on March 12 at the Double Creek Elementary School cafeteria from 4:00 to 5:30. Contact Mr. Lane, CIS site coordinator, for more information.
Grade 5 to Participate in Schoolinks Interest Inventory
(01/21/26) Plans are underway for Grade 5 students to complete the SchooLinks career interest inventory. This inventory is designed to help students learn more about themselves and how their preferences relate to possible career matches for the future. SchooLinks is a college and career readiness platform that has been adopted by JISD to assist Grade 5-12 students with career exploration and post-secondary planning.
Grade 5 Middle School Course Selection Nights
(01/15/26) A middle school course selection parent night will be held Wednesday, FEB 4 at 6 PM in the Jarrell Middle School cafeteria for current DCES Grade 5 parents. Please note that some students are assigned to Jarrell Ranch Middle School. The course selection parent night for JRMS is scheduled for FEB 5 at 6:00 pm in the JRMS cafeteria. Middle school counselors will be speaking to Grade 5 students during the school day on Friday, JAN 30 at which time students will receive a course selection "worksheet". Official MS course selection forms will be distributed at the FEB 4 and 5 parent nights.
January Core Essentials: COMMITMENT
(12/15/25) Welcome to 2026! We’re starting off the year with COMMITMENT— making a plan and putting it into practice. This month, we’ll think about what we need to stay

Adopt-A-School Soldiers Visit on NOV 21
(12/2/25) Our Ft. Hood Adopt-A-School soldiers were on hand NOV 21 for Thanksgiving dinner at DCES. They spent time visiting with students and then served as judges for the 2025-26 building level National Career Development Week poster contest. Results of the poster contest will be announced at the next Cougar Character Awards on JAN 9.

Food Giveaway Hosted by CIS on NOV 20
(11/11/25) Communities In Schools is coordinating a Thanksgiving food give-away for the Jarrell community on November 20 at the Double Creek Elementary School cafeteria from 4:00 to 5:30. Contact Mr. Lane, CIS site coordinator, for more information.
NCDA Poster/Poetry Contest 2025
(11/03/25) November is National Career Development Month. Students and staff are encouraged to create a poster or poetry entry expressing your interpretation of the theme "The Evolution of Work: Careers in the Past, Present and Future." Grades K-2 and 3-5 winners will receive an award and there will be a prize drawing for any teachers/staff who submit at least 3 student entries to Ms. Lake by noon on NOV 21.

DCES Celebrates Red Ribbon Week in Style
(11/03/25) DCES staff and students went all out in dressing up for Red Ribbon Week theme days. Media club provided daily Red Ribbon messages during morning announcements and the annual prize drawing saw 35 lucky students go home with a special Red Ribbon Week backpack, frisbee and beach ball.

Fire Safety Demonstration OCT 10 a Huge Hit!
(10/14/25) Members of Jarrell Fire and Rescue were on hand recently to discuss fire safety with DCES Grade 3 students. In addition to learning about fire safety practices, students got to experience a fire truck with all its equipment up close. The inflatable house evacuation simulator was a highlight of the demonstration.
Ft. Hood Adopt-A-School Solders Visit DCES OCT 8
(10/14/25) Soldiers from our Ft. Hood Adopt-A-School unit were on hand to participate with students in PE, art, music, science lab and library classes. We appreciate our Adopt-A-School unit so much!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month
(10/06/25) Bullying Awareness Month is a timely reminder for organizations to take action at the local level to foster safe and supportive environments. RED RIBBON WEEK Set for OCT 27-31
(10/02/25) The theme for Red Ribbon Week this year is "Life Is a Puzzle. Solve It Drug Free". 2025 THEME DAYS FLYER (English and Spanish)
Vaping Prevention Presentations Grades 4-5
(10/01/25) Vaping and e-cigarette use is a growing concern among elementary school age children. Presentations utilizing Catch My Breath materials for Grades 4 and 5 will be conducted in the coming weeks to educate students about the dangers and social implications of vaping as well as strategies to help them make healthy choices. Catch My Breath is an evidence-based program developed through the University of Texas Health Science Center. Start with Hello Week: Thank you for Participating!
(10/01/25) Students at DCES enthusiastically participated in START WITH HELLO WEEK September 22-26. Everyone was encouraged to wear name tags and introduce themselves to someone new. They wore green to show their support for the START With Hello message of being kind and helping to make sure that no one feels left out. Media Club provided a daily message during morning announcements. Students also had a chance to learn some "Hello" words from around the world!

Safety Patrol is Rockin' It!
(09/17/25) Grade 5 student volunteers recently completed Safety Patrol training and have started assisting at the car line with morning arrival. This first group of student Safety Patrol volunteers will be performing their duties until the end of 1st quarter. A new group of trained student volunteers will take over for 2nd quarter. Thank you Safety Patrol for setting a great example for fellow students. Your service and dedication to DCES is greatly appreciated!

(08/29/25) Ms. Lake will be visiting PK-5 classrooms to speak with students about having more a successful school experience by identifying their feelings, thinking about possible coping strategies, and then taking action to practice those strategies. (08/29/25) COURAGE means being brave enough to do what you should do, even when you’re afraid. Courage isn’t just about big, loud actions. It’s also about showing up, even when things are tough, and trying again. Informed Parental Consent Requirement
(08/13/25) As part of our comprehensive school counseling and support services program, students may have access to a certified school counselor and/or school-based support staff. These services align with the Texas Education Code (TEC §33.005), the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, and the new SB 12 (2025), which requires parent or guardian permission for students to receive the same counseling and social services support we've traditionally provided. Please access and submit the informed consent form below to avoid possible delay in services for your child.
