JSFC held an informal Ohanami on Saturday, April 15. The yoshiho cherry blossoms were in bloom. The gathering was at Mead Memorial Park in New Canaan.
This was an informal event with no planned activities. Attendees brought their own food and drink, and shared a few items. Some purchased from the food vendor in the park, and others bought sushi and other foods at Walter Stewart's Market. We met at the pavilion area (white pillars in between the tennis courts.) Fortunately, the rain held off until 1:30 PM.
A few of us walked around the pond on the Gold Star Walk, which commemorates the 38 New Canaanites who gave their lives for their country during World War 2. They are honored with 38 flowering trees and a plaque listing their names. The Yoshino cherry blossom tree which JSFC gave for the Walk has been replaced (twice!) and is now in a spot near where the walk ends/starts at the park’s Park Street entrance.
