Sakura season is HERE! JSFC is having our own informal Ohanami on Saturday, April 15, 12:00 to 2:00. The yoshiho cherry blossoms have been blooming since April 12. The gathering will be at Mead Memorial Park in New Canaan.
The park entrance is at 241 Park Street, New Canaan, CT 06840. (The Richmond Hill Rd address given by Google is the Exit). This is an informal event with no planned activities. Bring your own food and drink, chairs or blanket. There is a food vendor and restroom. You can also buy made-in-the-store sushi at Walter Stewart's Market. Find your favorite spot or meet at the pavilion area (white pillars in between the tennis courts.) It is a public park, so you can come any day or time you wish, if you cannot join us on the date we pick. The park is open 8AM – 8PM daily.
There is a parking lot in the middle of the park near the Park Street entrance; see map below. Additional parking is available in the Richmond Hill Municipal Parking Lot at the NE corner of Park St and Richmond Hill Rd. We encourage you to enjoy the park, which includes a playground, Bristow Bird sanctuary (at the south end of the park), and the Gold Star Walk. The Walk commemorates the 38 New Canaan servicemen who gave their lives in World War II with 38 flowering trees and a plaque lists their names. The tree which JSFC gave for the Walk has been replaced (twice!) and is now in a spot near where the walk ends/starts at the park’s Park Street entrance. The trail into the Bird Sanctuary starts at the far end of the parking lot towards the train tracks and goes along the back of the two smaller baseball fields. It would be nice if you bring a bag to clean up the park as you explore it.
