Ascend CT & Westchester and the Japan Society of Fairfield held a Spring picnic at Mill River Park in Stamford, CT to enjoy the blooming cherry blossoms, on Sunday, April 23rd. We met in the park area under 2 of the original cherry trees planted by Junko Nojima. The red triangle shows the originally planned location, under Yoshino cherry trees. But because the Yoshino had just finished blooming, and the Nojima Kwanza were in full bloom, we moved the picnic north to the red oval.
After some time to get to know each other, we were treated to several trays of sushi generously provided by Ascend. Fortunately the earlier rain stopped before noon, so we were able to see the Kwanza in bloom, visit, and eat before the rain returned at 1:30 PM.
