Here are some common recipes that we use to grow bacteria and phage.
LB Broth (per 1 L)
Follow manufacturer's instructions, but typically the recipe is 20 g of LB media to 1 L distilled water.
Stir until the LB is dissolved. Autoclave to sterilize the media.
LB Agar (per 1 L)
20 g LB media
15 g bacteriological agar
1 L distilled water
Stir until the LB is dissolved. Autoclave or heat in a microwave to dissolve the agar. Autoclave to sterilize the media.
LB agar can also be bought as a dehydrated pre-mix from manufacturers.
Soft Agar (per 1 L)
20 g LB media
6 g bacteriological agar
1 L distilled water
Stir until the LB is dissolved. Autoclave or heat in a microwave to dissolve the agar. Autoclave to sterilize the media.
0.9% Saline Solution (per 1 L)
9 g NaCl, non-iodized
1 L distilled water
We purchase Tris-EDTA (TE), Tris-Acetate-EDTA (TAE)
