We are devoted to increasing scientific literacy and skills for students in the School District of Janesville.
By the year 2050, it is estimated that 10 million deaths in the world will occur as a result of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. How do we prevent the crisis from getting that bad? There are a number of ideas, but we are trying to address it by:
Using bacteriophages (or phages) to infect bacteria and make them sensitive to antibiotics. Check out this cool video on phages.
Using bacteriophages to break down biofilms. Bacteria embedded in biofilms are more resistant to antibiotics than bacteria that are not in biofilms.
Identify and characterize novel antibiotics.
