Our Purpose

Our goal is to ensure that the "Semiquincentennial" * is more than just a date on the calendar. We are committed to making this a year of deep reflection and active engagement by:

* Semiquincentennial refers to a 250th anniversary. It marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. While it’s a bit of a mouthful, it is the official term for this historic milestone.

The word is constructed from Latin roots:

Semi-: Half

Quin-: Five

Cent-: Hundred-

ennial: Yearly/Anniversary

When you put it together (2 x 100 + 50), you get the 250-year mark.
