Jadavpur University, in the year 2004, took the initiative to create Sir C V Raman Centre for Physics and Music for exhaustive study in these areas. A small amount of donation was received from the wife of Late Sri Samir Kumar Mitra, an alumnus of the Department of Physics, Jadavpur University in this connection.
Vision
To be a pioneering global leader in unraveling the intricate neuro-cognitive tapestry of music perception, emotional response, and its influence on brain dynamics and consciousness. We envision a future where the profound impact of music on the human mind is deeply understood through the innovative application of nonlinear chaos theory and advanced machine learning, leading to transformative insights in neuroscience, psychology, artificial intelligence, and the study of consciousness itself.
Objectives
Neurocognitive assessment of emotion as well as emotion specificity using EEG data of different subjects with a variety of speech/music stimulus.
Studying “Human Consciousness” and Quantum dynamical effects in the human brainusing a variety of auditory stimulus.
To study the changes of EEG signals with the changes in different important features of speech and music like tempo, rhythm, different frequencies, prosodic variations etc.
Using Artificial Intelligence and neural network architectures for classification of variety of Indian music clips as well as emotions from neural signals
Development of a novel yoga-music protocol for enhancement of overall literacy and wellbeing of school going population
Investigations into the effect of music on the human system
Studies on feature extraction and the timbre and prosodic characteristics of vocal and instrumental music.
Research into non-linearity of musical instruments.
Development of algorithms for interactive methodologies, particularly for distant learning of music.
Employing novel neural network architectures for efficient classification of Indian musical systems.
