Finding the Common Ground, Achieving the Common Goal 

I want to be a good ally but I don’t know how… How do I get started? How do I engage others? Many of us might struggle to find the right words. At the same time, our JA Areas are working to recruit and retain a diverse group of volunteers who are committed to inclusion and equity.  

The websites shared here are an extension of our commitment to provide valuable resources for volunteers and teachers who want to continue their journey to connect with all students 

These resources are for teachers, volunteers, and JA staff seeking information to continue their support of all students.  

NEP focuses on advancing educational equity and social justice in schools and communities. NEP provides professional development, coaching, and consulting services to educational institutions and leaders across the United States.



SLPC provides free resources for educators to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in schools. Their website offers lesson plans, teaching strategies, articles, and professional development resources.



Edutopia aims to improve K–12 education through the promotion of innovative teaching practices, educational technology integration, and a focus on 21st-century learning skills.



KnowledgeWorks focuses on transforming education systems and supporting innovation in learning. Their work is centered around envisioning and creating personalized, competency-based education that meets the needs of all students.

These resources support volunteers and teachers who would like to lean into learning.  

The Center for Creative Leadership offers a free library of resources designed to help nonprofit professionals establish and champion diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI) initiatives within their organizations. 

This Bloomerang course is designed to support efforts in becoming a more equitable and inclusive organization by helping organizations understand, identify, and interrupt defensive routines that might hinder their progress. 

The Society for Diversity provides resources, training, and certifications to support diversity and inclusion initiatives. They offer articles, research, webinars, and a directory of diversity experts.


Catalyst is a global nonprofit organization focused on promoting workplace inclusion for women. Their website offers research reports, webinars, toolkits, and other resources to support DEI efforts in organizations.

This UCLA course has been recognized as the best free diversity training. The objectives are: 

1. Understand this paradox (diversity). 

2. Understand the dynamics surrounding diversity.

3. Identify ways to manage it so that people/organizations can better channel the diversity potential in the workplace for greater performance and innovation. There is also a global perspective. 

These Coursera workshops are supporting Microsoft’s work as they look to sociology, psychology, behavioral science, and neuroscience to understand what leads to exclusion, and to find effective ways to change habits and behaviors, and deepen understanding. There is a global perspective. 

Use these free resources from Microsoft to gain a deeper understanding about inclusivity, diversity, and bias in the workplace.

As you continue your DEI journey, consider exploring the information available on local and national affinity group sites to help increase awareness and understanding of your community and the students who live there.
