For students at IW, 5th graders can opt to join band at the beginning of the school year. This class lays the foundations for playing an instrument in an ensemble setting. Students will be taught from zero; beginning with opening the case and putting the instrument together. They have the opportunity to present two concerts to their friends and family and demonstrate what they have been learning in class. This class runs for one year, as we learn the value of teamwork, polishing a final product, and grit/determination.
Foundations of Excellence
In Beginning Band, students gain invaluable skills that go beyond music theory and instrumental techniques. They learn the value of working together for a common goal, persistence and perseverance, and taking pride in their hard work. In the first year, students learn so much that their playing ability goes from zero to full-fledged musicians in just eight months!

We use King Music in Bradley, IL for our music supplies. Most things can be purchased online. If your student needs any supplies (reeds, valve oil, slide grease, cork grease, etc.) or other music instruments/accessories, you can either purchase from them directly, or you can talk to Mr. Corbeille about getting what your student needs!
