My research interests include Semantic Web and Ontology Engineering with focus on Arabic related issues, Parallel and Distributed Computing with focus on Cloud Computing, and Big Data. I have supervised and evaluated a number of thesis researches in areas and topics related to Web Services, Semantic Web, Cloud Computing, and Information Retrieval. I have various publications in these areas. Also, I have supervised MSc and PhD students in other universities local and international. I am a referee in a number of scientific journals in the above areas. I have joined several research projects. I am a member and organizer of several scientific, academic and social committees and events.

For example, I have conducted research in Mathematical Web Services and Semantic Web (through two research projects, Mathbroker and Mathbroker II, and through my PhD dissertation). I have led the MetaExtractor (funded by the Swiss agency and UNDP) project with aim to extract metadata from scientific articles and reports and classify them in a research repository. Also, I have adapted an applied part of my research knowledge to various Arabic-based domains. One reason is that Arabic is a convolutional language and poses many challenges for most researchers both at the NLP level and at the data analysis level. Another reason is that we want (me and my students and colleagues) to contribute to the advancement of the Arabic-computer science interdisciplinary research and rise the presence of Arabic in the Web of Linked Data. Currently, I am focusing on the intersection of Semantic Web, Ontology Engineering and Machine Learning.
