AI Activity Cards
Toby Fischer—an educator, professor, and consultant—developed these activity cards to inspire teachers to explore the integration of AI in their classrooms. He also authored the accompanying article to provide context and guidance for their use. In this activity, choose one of the activity cards to try out either yourself or with your students.
AI Article
"Another AI Side Effect: Erosion of Student-Teacher Trust" - The article by Greg Toppo on the 74 million website discusses how AI is intensifying current feelings of mistrust in classrooms post pandemic. After reading this article investigate how higher ed is working to cultivate trust between professor and student when AI is used. The American University Kogod School of Business has created an AI Disclosure Form to be used as a tool in the classroom. Look at this AI Disclosure Form and work on developing a similar for to be used in your K-12 classroom.
AI & Algorithmic Bias
Explore AI Bias with the Most Likely Machine and learn more about how algorithms power the world, but still make mistakes. Learn: what algorithms are, what they are used for, what algorithmic bias is, and why it matters. This interactive website, built for middle and high schoolers, will walk you through an activity where you identify which historical figures are 'mostly likely to' in their class. Complete the Most Likely Machine activity, review Learn More About the Purpose of This Experience and How it Was Designed, and complete the Reflection Thread by responding to one of these reflection questions:
How might you adapt “The Most Likely Machine” for your own students to help them think critically about how AI makes decisions?
How can you design follow-up activities that empower students to question, test, or improve AI systems rather than simply use them?
If you were to repeat this lesson with your students, what supports or modifications would you add to ensure that all learners can engage meaningfully with the concept of bias in AI?
