What is Discovery?

• It is a person-centered approach to gathering information about an individual prior to discussing potential jobs, employers, or job tasks.


• It assists in revealing the person’s interests, skills, and supports in environments and activities where they are at their best.


• It seeks to understand various facets of an individuals’ life in order to discover who the person is rather than what he or she wants to do.


• It utilizes already existing information instead of information developed through typical evaluations.  


• It uses interviews and observations to uncover the unique contributions, skills, and interests that a person can bring to a work experience.  

Discovery Consist of:

• Profile 1: The Intake Interview – Demographic information.

 

• Profile 2: The Descriptive Heart of the Profile – A description of the individual’s life.

 

• Profile 3: Summarization and Translation – Conditions, interests, contributions and challenges.

 

• Customized Planning Meeting: Identifies the unique features of a job that fit the individual and list potential employers that match his or her unique skills.

 

• Visual Resume: Represents the best of the individual – Used to introduce contributions to potential employers.
