In order to determine what would be best to research and eventually create recommendations, we performed an interview with Mrs. Hayes the associate director of Churches in Mission. In this interview she detailed how Churches in Mission has seen an increase in need, without an increase in donation or supply. This was brought on by the extra need from COVID and impacts how much they are able to provide to the community. In order to figure out what research needs to be performed, we focused on methods to best increase donations.
The literature research was performed to provide Churches in Mission with new data and information that will help support the recommendations that are being made. Literature research was also conducted to later produce a literature review that would serve as a summary for what was obtained from the secondary research.
The chosen literature research was based around the challenges and suggestions made during our time communicating with Churches in Mission. Our four main objectives we focused on were motivators and incentives of donation, research studies on social media, effective marketing strategies, and organization structure and management.
The major goal of the report is to find new ways to increase marketing and eventual donations to Churches in Mission. Research was based around social media and resolving community questions to increase community involvement. The original problem statement and conducted interview was used as a guide to create more specific supplemental research questions.
Research results were obtained through the use of IU Indianapolis provided library databases such as EBSCO or IUCAT. Each member of the group was assigned a subtopic and found the best supporting articles, journals, or books that provided new information for our research. This was then individually compiled into a review grid that was used to build the overall literature review.
The major primary research conducted was a Google form with questions based around donation habits, social media interaction, relationship to Churches in Mission, and learning more about the individuals experience with Churches in Mission.
The questions asked were based on what was left unanswered from the research that was performed. Some of the unanswered questions were more of a would this work, rather than a how does this work approach. In order to understand that an idea could not only be implemented but have a high chance of success was proven through the survey. Other statistics were gathered from the survey pertaining to demographic. Data collected also showed what was working well in the community, like where people had heard of Churches in Mission or where they go to look for information. Objectively, the survey showed where best to target new marketing objectives for potential donors.
The major population observed was of Morgan County, the link to the survey was posted on the Churches in Mission Facebook page. The population was important due to the geographical location of Churches in Mission. Churches in Mission serves the Morgan County community, meaning the best results would come from surveying people that reside in Morgan County.
The data was collected through the use of Google forms and organized into graphs to be interpreted easier. Graphs also painted a larger picture of how all the data compares across the board, giving inclination as to what is working or what is not working in the community. The breakdown of this data can be found in the analysis section of the report.
The literature review was created to best summarize all of the compiled research that had been obtained through the secondary research method. The main goal of this literature review was based around answering the original question of “How can Churches in Mission create fresh marketing ideas to better serve the community without hiring more staff or involving financial grants?”. All four subtopics guided in the creation of the literature reviews to ensure that all possible ideas or avenues of problem solving had been explored.
