During the course of summer, I finished my 50 hours of engage learning at BACI. I worked at the Community Health & Wellness program. I was given the outreach team, where I helped with healthcare enrollment sessions organized and direct supervision of mental health services and implementation of training. I helped sheduled an appointment, translate, answer phone calls, researching, and presenting it to a big church about the importance of mental health and giving flyers.
During my time working at the program, I realized how many of our burmese community have been going through multiple stages of mental illnesses. Some of the clients don't have medicaid, so they don't have any ideas on where to get helped. They don't know how stress can influenced their performances and overall outcome of health. It was stressful trying to get them to get helped, but some of the older generation aren't used to these kind of resources that are available to them. So they just deal with it and some of them are embarrassed to admit that they are going through depression, however, upon seeing the amount of people willing to get an extra helped, me and the team try our best to assist and making sure they get the helped they need. After, I was done with the 50 hours, I realized that in my future career i will do my best to make sure I assist and use my bilingual skills to helped the people who are going through many obstacles related to their health outcomes.
