Class Standing: Junior
Major: Biology
Minor: Health Administration
Why did I choose Biology?
I chose Biology as my major because of my early interest in the sciences. I took lots of science based courses in high school and always found myself enjoying them greatly. Despite the reputation for being difficult, I took the jump and selected a B.S in Biology to be my degree.
Strengths as a Team Member: Efficient, Communicative, Respectful, Responsible, Timely, and Cooperative.
My experiences in places like Methodist Hospital really highlight the importance of teamwork. If there is no teamwork in a place, whether it be an internship or volunteering or work, the whole system goes down. People bring out the strengths and cover the weaknesses of each other. The best systems are ones that have a cooperative, kind, and ready to learn team.
1.) PCA at Methodist Hospital
I am currently working as a patient care assistant (PCA) at Methodist Hospital. Through that job I take care of patients' various needs and collaborate with nurses. I'm learning a lot at my job because I take care of both palliative and medsurg patients. I see all kinds of things and am educated on different treatments for different illnesses. These experiences will be vital to my future in healthcare and science.
2.) Director of Ethics for VIDA
One leadership role of mine is with the organization Volunteer Initiatives Domestic and Abroad. I organize ethics meetings/events according to a monthly theme. Through this position, I network and learn useful leadership skills.
3.) Humane Society Volunteer
I frequently volunteer at the IACS humane society. It is one of my favorite parts of each month. I help clean cages, feed the kitties, and socialize with the scared ones. Volunteering there feels like i'm actually accomplishing something and is a sort of stress reliever for me after my hectic schedule of school and work.
