About Me

I am currently a junior studying Health Sciences and minoring in Biology at IUPUI. After undergrad, I plan to attend dental school. I have chosen the major, Health Sciences, as I am eager to learn more about health care, health promotion, disease prevention, and the overall health of the human body. As I learn about the overall health of the body, I believe a degree in Health Sciences will provide me the essential knowledge and skills to excel in the field of health care. In addition, I added biology as my minor as I see it as the backbone of Health Sciences. Not only am I taking numerous biology courses to fulfill my pre-reqs before graduate school, I believe learning about living things and how they function, interact, and relate to one another provides a deeper understanding to our overall health.

Teamwork

A good team member is someone who understands how to work well with other members and effectively solve issues that may rise. Some strong qualities that I possess as a team member are: being self-aware and accepting what I struggle with and what I excel in, learning from other members, staying open-minded to other member's ideas/opinions, and communicating effectively to be a reliable team member.

My experiences and skills

Throughout my undergrad, I have been volunteering and working in many different areas to give back to the community and enhance my skills. I have volunteered at Riley Children's Hospital as a Riley Cheer Guild Volunteer. I had the opportunity to raise money to provide toys, crafts, and activities for the patients. As I am currently the Volunteer Events Coordinator for the pre-dental club, the skills I gained from volunteering at Riley Children's Hospital helped me understand how to properly organize meetings to learn the needs of different organizations and to properly communicate with other members and organizations so their needs are met. Most importantly, volunteering for pre-dental club and even in my sorority, Delta Zeta, I am able to help causes such as speech and hearing for my sorority and help around the community to make a difference in other people's lives. Also, as I am fascinated by the topic of Biology, I had the opportunity to become an Undergraduate Teachers Assistant to mentor students in their daily lab and class experiences.

As a Junior at IUPUI, I am able to share my experiences as the School of Health and Human Sciences ambassador to prospective students. These experiences helped me for my current job as a dental assistant, as I am learning many skills in my volunteer experiences and applying the skills from my past work, especially as the Patient Services Representative at the IU School of Dentistry. I have strengthened my communication skills and teamwork skills as I have had to communicate essential information to other members in my leadership positions and at work and work with many different types of people!

IUPUI Pre-Dental Club: Volunteer Event Coordinator

As the Volunteer Event Coordinator, I have reached out to many food banks, dental clinics, and provided many small volunteer opportunities for pre-dental students to give back to our community.

Family Dental Care - Dental Assistant

Becoming a dental assistant has opened my eyes in the field of dentistry. There are many different types of procedures I was unaware about, however when working with a team it has been amazinig to see how many patients walk out confident. Some tasks include prep patients for procedures, assist the dentists during procedures, help with the maintenance of patient records and sterilizing instruments.

Riley Cheer Guild: https://rileycheerguild.org/

Riley Cheer Guild is a volunteer auxiliary that provides comfort and cheer to patients and caregivers at Riley Hospital for Children. I was able to organize a meeting with the head of the organization to learn their needs and engage with the community through social media to raise money to provide crafts and activities for patients

IUPUI Honors College

The Honors College has helped me prepare for many of my academic and professional goals. Completing contracts each semester has allowed me to grasp a deeper meaning in my courses and allow me to better my connection with my professors.

School of Health and Human Sciences Ambassador

Being an ambassador, I have had the opportunity to represent the school in a constructive way with a positive attitude and motivate and assist prospective students when transitioning into the school

Delta Zeta

Delta Zeta has turned me into the woman I am today. Having a strong sisterhood amongst many other woman and advocating for our national philanthropy has made me into a better version of myself. Our philanthropy is Speech and Hearing and since our partnership with Starkey Hearing Foundation, we have raised over $5.5 million dollars. Our national effort is to raise awareness about communications disorders and the need for improved global hearing health.
