Internship
About the Internship
As a research assistant in the department of Pediatrics I help with a project called Reframe. This project educates woman within the indianapolis womans prison on STI/HIV and pregnancy prevention. I will be working behind the scenes to analyze data from surveys I create through REDCap that participants will take.
Workplace
My current strengths as a team member?
I'm a very fast learner! Often if I am shown something I can replicate it without many issues. If I am having an issue I speak up and ask any questions that I have. This allows me to be independent when working on task assigned to me.
I am also dependable. When my supervisor needed an extra task done, I worked diligently to get it back to her.
So far at my internship, I have stuck to my work schedule. Whenever I am having tech issues, or want to let my supervisor know where I am at on task I email them.
Where do you want to grow as a professional and teammate this year?
Further into my internship, I want to be able to work with more quantitative data. This will broaden my research skillsets and allow me to be more useful to other members of the team.
Update 3/25/24
Over the past couple of weeks my work environment has changed tremendously. The doctor I work under took another position, and my supervisor passed away. Because of these things I have been working independently for about a month now. The focus of my internship has now shifted to doing my LHSI showcase project. I will be presenting interactive material that talks about topics around consent.
Through these transitions I have gotten better at identifying that that I need to accomplish and holding myself accountable to reach deadlines I set for myself.
I have also need to make sure my communication skills are being utilized since the person I work under is in a different state. I was transparent about my decrease in motivation to continue the internship given the changes in workplace and workload. After talking to them I was able to identify why the internship still had value to me and the impact it would have on others.
