Sea Scope Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to increase diversity in science and aquatics for the purpose of increasing conservation efforts of our ocean planet. Educational workshops, aquatics training, and hands-on learning experiences are provided through high quality youth development programs. Sea Scope Inc’s motto is: “We must narrow our scope to save the planet.” A seascope is a telescope used to magnify small aquatic life in small bodies of water. Like a seascope, this organization focuses on the viability of the population of individuals that continue to face barriers.
My task as a Data Management Intern is completing data entry, collecting transactions, tracking and maintaining and monitoring financial records. I also compile information that will need to be collected, organized, and maintained. The information compiled are demographics of program participants and performance metrics determined and collected by Program Director, COO, or CEO. Along with demographics of volunteers and volunteer hours, independent contractor hours and invoices received and payments made for services rendered, and financial records for daily transactions and preparing quarterly reports. I also have had previous experience in this field helping my father with his businesses and assisting with CPAs and financial advisers with needed information which help me in my internship. These responsibilities helps me become very keen with financials as I need to be right on the dot. and it helps me improve my goal of "improving my attention to detail along with my knowledge of finance and business."

Teamwork & Workplace Culture
My internship is remote so I do not have any knowledge of how the site operates in the office but I interact with my supervisors through WhatsApp and weekly Zoom meetings to stay connected. I think this type of workplace culture is ideal. I do not have any certain ideal culture but I believe the culture now is something that works and everyone is connected well. I have usually worked in other environments that are different than this one based on the work I am getting. The other environments were mainly hand work and this is focused on a computer. I prefer doing physical work with people so I can work together and branch off of new ideas. With the remote structure, I am not well aware of how employees operate but I do individual work and occasionally work with other employees with another part of SeaScope which is AfterSchoolHQ. Examples would be contacting parents with AfterSchoolHQ as I do follow up phone calls and following up with virtual workshops during the month. This is done after I discuss with other employees and check up with their progress.
