The short term goal for the Orange County Housing Initiative is to construct a design-led, cost effective and energy efficient house for a client. Building on the design and materials work being undertaken by Indiana University students in the spring semester, construction will begin in June, 2019. Two potential sites have been located in Paoli, Indiana and are indicated on the map and in photos, below.
With its timeless and unique design, the house will be a valuable and accessible home for generations. The home will be built using sustainable and durable construction methods and will be designed in accordance with American with Disabilities Act standards. The basic designs allow for either a small one bedroom (650 sq ft) home or a slightly larger two-bedroom design (850 sq ft). The house can be expanded to include a larger deck, which could be converted in the future into more enclosed space. The renderings below demonstrate one possible layout.
