Medical Group Management is a course that was more diverse than I was expecting. This course taught me many things including different type of healthcare settings, how organizations run, how to manage conflict in the workplace, and the organizational structure of different types of facilites.
Initially, I thought this course was going to be boring and not beneficial at all. Thankfully, I was very wrong. This course really opened my eyes to so many disparities and allowed me to have conversations with others who have different beliefs than I do.
Health policy was very beneficial to our degree. This class started as us learning the different branches of government, how those branches work, and what exactly they do. Then we got to hear from mutiple guest speakers about their jobs and how policy is around them in their jobs now.
Although, I never saw myself wanting to work in long term healthcare, this class opened my eyes. Nursing home, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, and other rehabilitation facilities are thought to be something that people are ashamed of going into. This course taught us different ways that we can view these facilities and how to make them more home-like for those transitioning to this way of living. After taking this course, I could see msyelf wanting to run a long term healthcare facility.
This course was the most beneficial course I took throughout my time at Indiana University Fort Wayne. Strategic planning is something that can be used in any type of job setting. One of our biggest projects was a stratetic plan for any hospital we would like to look into. During this project, we researched many things including an environmental assessment, internal analysis, financial summary, directional strategies, etc. This project showed us how to get information about a healthcare facility and what to do with this information for growth.
