Career Goal:

What?

Currently I'm studying HR Management, Business Management, and International Studies with a minor in Spanish. My academic goal is to graduate with these three degrees with honors as well as gain experience through club involvement, community service, and internships in my time at college. Later on, I hope to take my talents beyond international borders and travel seeking jobs where I'm needed in other countries. I hope I can work with people and open my eyes to a whole new world of diversity.

Why?

The why behind my career goal is because I was born in Argentina, but raised in the US. My background has allowed me to be introduced to different cultures growing up and living in a diverse community has also given me opportunities to learn and grow. I want to expand beyond what I already know, especially while I'm young and intend to make a living while I do that.

Steps for Success:

What I Need:

I believe all I need in order to be successful is the city of Indianapolis at my finger tips. The city has so much to offer and has thus already provided with me so many opportunities. Choosing to attend IUPUI has been one of my best life choices yet, and I feel it is only the beginning. Using the resources I have on campus such as club organizations, career fairs, networking events, faculty, and staff are all great tools to further advance my college experience and make the most of it during my 4 years.

A Step in the Right Direction:

The first step is to get involved. I intend to try as many clubs and organizations on campus without overwhelming myself to find what I do and don't like. This way I am able to identify where I feel I fit best. I believe that college is a great time for self-discovery. Therefore I'm going to continue to try to put myself out there, try whatever catches my eye, meet new people, and discover more and more opportunities through IUPUI.

Learning Professional Identity:

In the sales and marketing office of the JW Marriott hotel in Indianapolis, my professional identity is deeply rooted in my values of integrity, accountability, and sympathy. These values guide my interactions with colleagues and clients, ensuring that I uphold honesty and transparency in all my dealings, take responsibility for my actions, and empathize with the needs and concerns of others. In the fast-paced environment of sales and marketing, these values not only complement my work but also challenge me to maintain ethical standards while striving to meet targets and exceed expectations. My bilingualism and ability to quickly learn despite being new to the hospitality industry further enhance my professional identity in this role. I use my language skills to effectively communicate with diverse clients, facilitating smoother interactions and understanding. Additionally, my passion for helping people and ensuring their needs are met aligns perfectly with the core function of sales - assisting clients in booking rooms or meeting spaces tailored to their specific requirements. Understanding my professional identity not only confirms my chosen career path but also opens doors to exploring other industries or roles. As I transition towards a future in HR, the skills acquired in sales will be invaluable, while my language proficiency will enable me to engage with a broader range of people, both locally and internationally. Knowing my professional identity instills confidence in my career trajectory and fuels my ambition to continually grow and adapt in various professional environments.

What I Learned:

My academics at IUPUI Kelley School of Business has taught me a lot through courses that I have been able to find connections to my current internship. For example my business courses such as Professional Perspectives, Business Communications, or Foundations of Integrated Business Decision-Making are all project-based courses with real life applications that have helped me become familiar with a professional environment, such as the one at my internship. Examples consist of proper business lessons like how to write professional emails, recognize healthy work environments, and how to work in teams and the situations that that can come with. My internship also offers the same support towards my academics, because often times my business professors at IUPUI refer back to real life-scenarios of a work environment, therefor the more experience one can have under their belt, the more opportunities allowed to participate in class and build a stronger connection to the course, rather than having learned most of its content for the first time.
