Core Finance Team is a small finance firm that is led by talented executives with years of experience working for the "Big Four" in the Healthcare Industry. Core Finance team helps bring clients high impact results using wealth of experience, personalized approach, and dedication.
The responsibilities that I have while at Core finance team are completing Average Hourly Wage Index Documentation and other similar tasks. The Projects I have worked on so far at Core finance team are Average Hourly Wage Index documentation for hospitals, Wage Index Models for Vendors, and I have Completed Vendor Requests. The main reason for my position at core is documenting the Average Hourly Wage Index to aide in physician reimbursement through Medicare.
Some of the learning Objectives I gave myself upon my internship were the following:
Gain an understanding of finance in the health care industry.
Through my experience at core finance team I have been able to learn about Core-based Statistical areas, how the wage index impacts medicare reimbursement, and how bigger hospitals can drastically impact the reimbursement rates.
Strengthen my organization and detail orientation skills by carefully going through invoices to effectively gather the expenses billed by the vendor.
During the time I have spent at Core Finance Team I have been able to develop and improve my attention to detail. Working through invoices I was able to catch small details. I was corrected a few times on details missed at the start of my internship. Over time I noticed that I was making these mistakes less after learning.
Learn how to properly read invoices and learn how physician reimbursement works.
Core finance team has taught me how to read invoices that multiple vendors have provided. I have learned how to read invoices and examine them for hours, labor, and expenses. Knowing how to properly read an invoice and determine what can be reimbursed for is important.
Expand my Excel skills and learn how to use other technology tools in healthcare.
At my internship I have vastly increased my knowledge on Excel and other computer skills. I have learned how to use adobe acrobat for vendor requests, preparing and editing invoices, combining files together, transferring files onto flash drives, compiling large excel sheets, shifting through data, and creating pivot tables.
The first skill that I developed at Core finance team was communicating with a team when I did not fully understand something. I learned how to use more functions of excel and now understand how to read invoices. I have learned how to work in a team environment. Some of the specific contributions that I have made in this role is gathering the data for hospitals to see what their average hourly wage index is and how it compares. The information I have gathered can help hospitals get more reimbursement for the services they have provided. Through this internship I think an area that I can improve on is asking questions right away when I do not understand something. I need to continue working on my communication skills in the future.
What I have learned in the classroom has greatly influenced the role that I have played during my internship because in classes I learned how to work with others on projects that I did not fully understand. Classes that I have taken have prepared me to take initiative for myself and advocate for myself in situations that I do not understand. Another way classes have influenced my role that I have played in this internship is by giving me a general understanding of the healthcare industry and a look into what the healthcare finance field is like.
